What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that is placed by a website’s server in your computer’s browser or on your mobile device when you visit the website. The cookie contains a unique code that allows your browser to be recognised during your visit to the website (a so-called ‘session’ cookie) or during subsequent, repeat visits (a so-called ‘persistent’ cookie). Cookies may be placed by the server of the website you are visiting or by partners with whom this website collaborates. A website’s server can only read the cookies it has placed itself; it has no access to other information stored on your computer or mobile device. Cookies are stored on your computer or mobile device in your browser’s folder. The content of a cookie usually consists of the name of the server that placed the cookie, an expiry date and a unique numerical code.

Cookies generally make interaction between the visitor and the website easier and faster, and help the visitor to navigate between the various sections of a website. Cookies can also be used to make the content of a website or the advertising on a website more relevant to the visitor and to tailor it to their personal tastes and needs.

Use of cookies on the EV Belgium website

We use various types of cookies on the website.

1/ Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are essential for visiting our websites and using certain parts of them.

For example, these cookies allow you to navigate between the different sections of the websites and to fill in forms. If you refuse these cookies, certain parts of the website may not function properly.

2/ Preference cookies

Preference cookies are those that make our websites easier to use and more enjoyable for visitors, whilst ensuring you have a more personalised browsing experience. These include, for example, cookies that record your language preference; the cookie that tracks whether you have already been asked to take part in a survey so that we do not present you with the same survey repeatedly; or a cookie that offers you a personalised layout based on a previous visit.

If their device or browser permits, users may choose to activate the geolocation function to carry out searches in the vicinity of their GPS location. In such cases, the user consents to such geolocation being carried out for the sole purpose of providing them with this service.  Once the user has given their consent, it remains valid for every future connection the user makes to the service until they withdraw that consent.

3/ Analytics cookies

We use performance cookies to collect information about how visitors use our website, with the aim of improving its content, tailoring it more closely to visitors’ preferences and enhancing the user experience. For example, there is a cookie that helps us count the number of unique visitors and another that tracks which pages are the most popular.

4/ Tracking cookies

These cookies are set to determine whether someone is a returning visitor.
