Dear Member of EV Belgium,
Following last week’s lobby action concerning the federal negotiations and the potential introduction of partial deductibility for SMEs and independents, we would like to share an update on the progress and outcomes of this initiative.
Progress and Member Support
First, we want to thank you for your overwhelming support and the valuable information you shared during this process. Over 40 companies joined forces to sign our collective letter, submitted to all negotiating parties, including Open Vld. The letter emphasised the need to amend the policy note and address the potential issues related to this provision.
Political Response
So far, responses from political parties have been limited and primarily acknowledgements of receipt. While some parties indicated they would review the letter further and may return with questions, two parties—Les Engagés and cd&v—explicitly expressed their support. However, both highlighted the limited scope of the proposal, noting that only independents would theoretically benefit, which they do not perceive as an immediate threat.
From our understanding, this issue is not considered a significant red flag or contentious point in the negotiations. As a result, the status of this provision in the final agreement remains to be determined at this stage.
Call to Action
We would like to encourage further talks with stakeholders to amplify our collective concerns. Any additional support from member companies - particularly in sharing your discontent with this provision during such discussions - would be highly valuable. Our shared objective is to ensure that this proposal is either removed from the agreement or at least aligned with the existing Van Peteghem Law in terms of percentages and timeline.
Next Steps
EV Belgium will continue to actively engage with political stakeholders and advocate for our position. We welcome any additional input, actions, or information (contact@ev.be) you might have that could support our efforts.
Thank you once again for your commitment to this cause.
Best regards,
Philippe Vangeel
Director
